1. During the first week of this term you will be paired up with one other class member.
2. You will be given a home floor plan and case study information
3. During the term you will meet as a team and devise the following:

• Write up an initial examination for your case making sure to include a plan for obtaining all necessary information not given to you in the case study
• Adaptations to the floor plan to accommodate the functional limitations and disabilities of your case. This should include not only architectural access but also adaptive equipment that may be needed. Research all areas of the home that your patient may need to access in a typical day. Make sure this is specific to your case.
• Obtain information on at least one example of each piece of equipment needed with specific information such as dimensions and cost.
• For architectural access obtain estimates of time and cost for home adaptations from a builder. Be specific as to dimensions and changes needed.
• Obtain information from the companies of this equipment to determine typical coverage by insurance/Medicare/etc.(case specific). Find out more than “ does not cover”. Find out why and what type of alternatives they do cover.
• Discuss all equipment necessary for the patient i.e.) crutches, walkers, braces, w/c, prostheses, computer access, etc. Make recommendations for appropriate equipment with specific model and cost. Justify why these models, types, etc are necessary or why a lesser model will not be appropriate.
• Determine a priority list of rehab tech that you have determined your patient may need to be fully integrated into society. Develop a plan for obtaining the equipment throughout the course of their rehabilitation.
• Find at least one piece of published research on the rehab tech you have recommended.
• Prepare a presentation package summarizing the above to post on the discussion board in Blackboard. This should include PowerPoint file, handouts, equipment information, and pictures. Your handout should include references for your classmates so remember addresses, websites, phone numbers or equipment and vendors.
• Please put all of the above in writing with a copy to me.
